Mapping the MindReader Configuration Map

One of my long-time “Someday/Maybe” tasks has been to draft a blog post on the MindReader Configuration Map. I figured I’d push this off my aging task list with a quick post this evening and follow up as needed.

Although MindReader is designed to work “out of the box”, the mindreader.mmap file provides a way for users to customize it to their liking or language. You can access it quickly by typing “o mapmap” in the GyroQ dialog box. Curtis B. (who I believe was the first user of the tool along with James H.), recently suggested adding call-outs to the configuration map itself to better explain what each branch did and how to customize it. I went ahead and took a shot at that and uploaded a fresh copy to the wiki and as part of the AO-Pack.

If you are using Internet Explorer or have IETab installed, you can browse the sample configuration map by clicking here or download it by clicking here .

MindReader loops around the map for each task you enter or process and looks for keyword matches under each main topic. If it finds a match, it marks up the task based on the branch’s function and the note underneath the topic. Once you familiarize yourself with the various branches in the map, you will have a very good sense of exactly what MindReader can do and how it does it. Further (limited) documentation as well as French and Spanish versions are available on the MindReader Configuration Map Page on the wiki.

If you have questions or suggestions, just comment below as its always easier to answer questions than to anticipate them.

This is a huge help for those of us who aren’t quite at your level and can’t soar without documentation! I can’t wait to go and start tinkering now that I know what I can tinker with!

    Hi,
I live / work in the Gulf region, where the week is either saturday to wednesday or sunday to thursday.
Thus, when tagging entries as [end of this week], for example, i’m stuck with an action on a friday … which is my weekend ;-)

Is there anyway to configure this using the configuration map, or is it hard coded ?

Thanks for your help (and for the product …)

Hi Paul — Probably the easiest way to deal with something like this is to just say “Wednesday” or “Thursday” in the task and let mindreader recognize that.

There are probably lots of folks who would prefer “Friday” as the end of the work week rather than Saturday as the “end of week”

I took a look at the equation used and figured out how to set things up for other ends of the week:

    Wed: iff(weekday(date)<3,date+3-weekday(date),date+10-weekday(date)
    Thu: iff(weekday(date)<4,date+4-weekday(date),date+11-weekday(date)
    Fri: iff(weekday(date)<5,date+5-weekday(date),date+12-weekday(date)
    Sat: iff(weekday(date)<6,date+6-weekday(date),date+13-weekday(date)
    Sun: iff(weekday(date)<7,date+7-weekday(date),date+14-weekday(date)

Isn’t there a mindreader keyword to mark a topic as “committed”?

Sadly, given that I am a frequent user of the “someday” keyword I had forgotten a commitment keyword existed and had to check.

If you use the keyword “commitment”, it will toggle the task to committed.

Note that you have to use the resultsmanager edit activity command somewhere on the map first so that the someday/committed icons become a mutually exclusive pair of ResultsManager markers or else both will show up on the topic and it won’t toggle.

You could shorten the keyword to “commit” or something shorter by going to the icon branch of mindreaderconfig.mmap (“o mapmap” in GyroQ).
